Three over coffee.

Saturday morning. Chicago is still summer warm. The coffee can be sipped and the paper can still be read outside on the sidewalk on Division Street (by the way, if you’ve never read Studs Terkel’s book “Division Street America,” you should. Of course, Division Street is a very different street now then when Studs wrote about it in 1967. But in many ways, America is still the same).
- The recent controversy in Alsip over Fat Kid Rules the World reminds me that this is Banned Books Week. The American Library Association reports that the most banned book this year is…Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell’s award-winning “And Tango Makes Three,” about two male penguins parenting an egg from a mixed-sex penguin couple.
- My favorite Southsider, Phil Kadner, shows how the Springfield hacks aren’t done screwing schools.
- At last we were finally able to get rid of Chief Illiniwek from U of I at Champaign-Urbana, only to be replaced by a low-rent Hoover Institute.
Oh, and go, Cubbies.
