“No Child” comes to Chicago.
Last year on a trip to see our kids and grandchild in Brooklyn, they took Anne and me to see a one-woman show called “No Child.” The play was written and performed by the brilliant Nilaja Sun.
The small off-broadway theater that seats about 200 people, was filled. Many in the audience were obviously teachers. They greeted the characters that Sun brought to life with shouts of recognition. It was terrific.
Chicago’s Lookingglass Theater is bringing Nilaja Sun’s show to their theater this week. She will be there until November 11th. About 25 teachers from my school are going later this month. If you live in the Chicago area, you should go. Ticket information is here.
Day of the Dead.
Again, this is directed to those who live in, near or will be in Chicago between now and January. The National Museum of Mexican Art is exhibiting their 21st Day of the Dead celebration. I never miss it. Local, national and international artists as well as local high school students create ofrendas to their loved ones who have died. Info is here.
Fifty years after Little Rock.
Segregated schools in the Black Belt South. Not fifty years ago. Today. NY Times writer, Dan Barry writes about a case in Alabama.
