Darwin School, Logan Square, Chicago.
I live in the predominantly Latino community of Logan Square on Chicago’s northwest side.
This week, parents affiliated with the Logan Square Neighborhood Association protested the decision of the feds that the state IMAGE test, given to 59,000 English Language Learners in the six county Chicago area did not meet NCLB requirements.
Parents at the news conference, organized by the Logan Square Neighborhood Association, said they worried their children may know the material but might not understand the questions.”My daughter is smart, the brightest in her class,” said Leticia Barrera, a native of Mexican who is studying to get her teaching certificate. “But if she cannot understand the question, she cannot do well on the exam.”
