Peets was mobbed this morning. Erin wasn’t there because she got hit with a brutal viral bronchial infection which sent her to the hospital ER three times on Thursday before they admitted her. Her school got hit hard by the flu. Last Tuesday, there were so many sick teachers in our district that they couldn’t find subs for a third of them.

I didn’t get much time with the paper. There was a guy next to us with the cutest little girl. She waved and smiled at everyone and everyone waved and smiled back. Her dad travels a lot and he was giving Anne lots of info on Spain. We’re heading there in June.

Then in walked Mike and Susan. Mike complains that Peets never has decaf made. But we all ended up agreeing that it was not so bad because they end up brewing him a fresh cup every time he comes in.

The worst kind of elitist snob.

In yesterday’s NY Times, Ken Johnson wrote one of those articles that just makes you want to reach into the paper, grab the guy and smack the crap out of him.

I already posted on the movie Be Kind Rewind. I loved it. The critics were mixed about it as were some of my friends. But Johnson didn’t have a clue, although he would make references to French cultural theorists like Nicolas Bourriaud and use phrases like “relational aesthetics.”

Jeez.

Be Kind Rewind’s director, Michel Gondry, has started a project which puts the film’s politics into practice. He’s working with non-film makers to come together collectively to make movies.

Johnson’s reaction?

Could moviemaking become such a socially transformative activity? Imagine a sequel to “Be Kind Rewind” in which guerrilla filmmaking groups sweep the nation, creating a grass-roots cinema by and for the people that raises the collective self-consciousness. That seems about as probable as community theater replacing Broadway.

Uh, Johnson: YOUTUBE!

Plural.

I make plenty of typos. And I’m always confused about where I put apostrophes. But am I wrong that both Russo and DFER’s Joe Williams (who are claiming to be professional writers) are wrong when they refer to my brother (Small Talk) and me as the “Klonskies?” As in Russo’s “irascible Klonskies?” Or when Williams claims he can kick the asses of both “Klonskies?”

Leap Day Pot Luck.

The Pot Luck Carnival is back. And given the previously referenced illnesses that are going around, you might want to check out the recipe for home-made herbal cough soothers. Or just have a shot of Jack.
