Three over coffee.

Posted by: preaprez on: May 10, 2008

The normally gentle vibe at Peets was disturbed this morning by some guy with a cell phone talking way too loud about his business, including what horses he was betting on at Arlington later today. When another customer complained to the manager, the guy went ballistic.

“Do you know who I am? Don’t you know who I am?” He was like one of those third tier characters in the Sopranos.

This was followed by a stream of vulgarities directed to other customers, including me.

Frankly, none of us knew who he was.

“I’ know every cop in the city, bitch!”

I wasn’t sure if this was a boast or a confession. But he stormed out. An open table for another customer in the crowded Peets.

I know she’s done and I should move on. But…

Hillary, as the NY paper said, is toast. So we should move on and focus on John (like Bush, but crazy) McCain. But her sleazy exit has been duly noted by many, including Bob Herbert in today’s NY Times:

The Clintons have never understood how to exit the stage gracefully.

Their repertoire has always been deficient in grace and class. So there was Hillary Clinton cold-bloodedly asserting to USA Today that she was the candidate favored by “hard-working Americans, white Americans,” and that her opponent, Barack Obama, the black candidate, just can’t cut it with that crowd.

I’ve never understood the characterization of Bill and Hillary as progressives. And in some ways, I’m glad to see that this race baiting will be their legacy, rather than the “first black president” hokum.

AFT’s Weingarten wants a McCain win? NEA remains silent on Obama. What’s going on?

EdNotesOnline suggests the UFT President Randi Weingarten would not be unhappy with a McCain victory.

At the April Delegate Assembly Weingarten was asked - will you be giving Obama the same level of support you are giving to Hillary, she smiled (sort of) and said, “We don’t want McCain to win, do we?” The tone with which she answered gave something away. Then this was followed by a slap at Obama. We’ve also heard about chapter leader training has been used to slam Obama - a great way to get the word out to members without being on the public record.

And the NEA’s national leadership still remains mute on supporting Obama, even now when even Clinton supporter, Chicago congressman Rahm Emanuel, calls Obama the presumptive nominee.

It kind of makes you wonder about teacher union leadership, don’t it?

The Borowitz Report.

Andy Borowitz reports:

In what some Democratic Party insiders are calling a particularly ominous sign for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, former president Bill Clinton today became the latest superdelegate to switch from Sen. Clinton to her rival, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill).

Sources close to the former president said that Mr. Clinton had been mulling such a defection for weeks, as early as the night of the Iowa primary, but that he only decided to make his decision public today.

Note to Joanne Jacobs: It’s a joke.
