Miami activists arrested for opposing Marlins’ stadium.
My friend Joe writes:
Fred,
Ms. Yvonne Stratford and Tony Romano were arrested less than an hour ago as they left the Miami-Dade Board of County Commission Chambers. They were peacefully leaving a hearing to demonstrate their vote of no confidence in county leaders as they considered a bad deal to build a new stadium for the Florida Marlins.
Take urgent action now and demand the release of Ms. Yvonne and Tony:

The process of the City and County cutting a bad deal with Marlins officials has denied the right of residents to vote on the project from the outset. Opposition to the deal has cut across race and class lines and galvanized a call for democracy and opposition to corporate bailouts at the local level in South Florida. This is a final attempt by county officials to silence dissent.
Defend democracy, demand that there be no arrest for people exercising thier 1st Amendment rights:

Today as Ms. Yvonne and Tony walked out of the County Chambers with 40 other residents they were arrested. They are being brought to Miami-Dade Jail to be processed. This is a blatant shutting down of dissent.
Take action now and demand their release:
