Senator Dan Kotowski represents Park Ridge in the Illinois senate. He’s the first Democrat to do that in memory.

A dozen IEA members, including 7 from my local met with him in his district office this afternoon. Our concern: The future of our retirement system.

Governor Quinn’s plans have included increasing teacher contributions to TRS by 21%, a pension obligation holiday for the state itself, a two-tiered system with new teachers moving to a defined contribution system and a 1.5% increase in the state income tax with no local property tax relief.

Kotowski opposes all of these proposals and made that commitment to the IEA members who met with him this afternoon.

May 6th we travel down to Springfield and will meet with him again. We’ll be reminding him of his commitments.
