There’s probably no richer town in Illinois than the Northshore village of Kenilworth. So, it is natural that Kenilworth is where pro-war, anti-union Congressman Mark Kirk made the announcement that he was running for Barack Obama’s senate seat. He thought he would be among his people.

He wasn’t.

Carl Nyberg:

When I first arrived, the Kenilworth PD had told people affiliated with HCAN that because they had signs they would have to stay beyond the police tape across Melrose at Green Bay Road (GBR). The event was at the first house past the alley running parallel to GBR. One HCAN demonstrator said the police had informed him that Kennilworth ordinance restricted demonstrations to areas of commercial properties and prohibited demonstrations in residential areas. I asked for the part of village code that said this and an officer said he didn’t know the exact number of the ordinance. But the claim didn’t match what the police were enforcing since there was commercial property from GBR to the alley.

I love the spin you put on the fact that he lives in Kenilworth. Yes it is the richest town in Illinois; however, you saw the house he lived in. It was not one of the sprawling mansions on Sheridan Rd. It was a nice middle class house off of Green Bay rd. Certainly nothing close to most of the houses spread around Kenilworth. Its a nice play for you to mold the perception of people to make them think that Kirk was some rich boy up in his mansion. People: to not take the bait!

    Hey jquinn2010,

You totally missed the point (intentionally, perhaps?) of my post. I was trying to point out that even in Kenilworth, which as you yourself point out is the richest town in Illinois, his neighbors came out to protest his stand on health care.

So I meant no insult to the wealthier, but clearly more socially concerned, good people of Kenilworth.

Believe me, I have nothing against rich people per se. Whether they live in sprawling Kenilworth mansions or nice middle class houses off of Green Bay Road, they should only be judged by what they do.

Kirk is a pro-war, anti-union, anti-immigrant, opponent of decent health care for all Americans. That’s the spin. Not the size of his multi-million dollar house.
