Illinois State Board of Ed meets this AM to axe state school aid. (UPDATED)
Now that the Illinois state legislature and Governor Quinn have cut their deal on the state budget, the ISBE will meet this morning to make education cuts. Some programs will be slashed by 50%.
“This is not a pleasant scenario for any of us, but it is our unfortunate reality,” said State Superintendent Christopher Koch.
“Many very good programs will have to be substantially reduced or cut altogether.”

IEA:
Illinois State Board of Education officials met in a hastily called emergency session Tuesday to slash $400 million from the agency’s budget – cuts made in direct response to the budget state lawmakers passed last week.
It’s unclear what effect the measures will have on each Illinois school district, but one-third of early childhood education, teacher mentoring programs and response to intervention funding was hacked from the budget as well as 50 percent of the budgets for agricultural education, Nation Board Certification and Grow Your Own Teachers programs along with many programs that help schools’ most disadvantaged.
