A student writes on the loss of his teacher.
July 22, 2009
From the letters section of the NY Times this morning:
To the Editor:
Though “Angela’s Ashes” was a great book, it offered only further proof to me that Frank McCourt in print could not be compared with Frank McCourt in person. I had Mr. McCourt for English as a junior in Stuyvesant High School. His unit on Chaucer was spectacular, and the memories of it make me smile even now.
While it is true that the world has lost a wonderful writer, the loss of this wonderful teacher is the greater loss by far.
