Hey, this is a protest. Not a bake sale!
I heard a sad but funny story this morning from my colleague across the hall.
A friend of hers is a teacher in a wealthy north shore suburban district. They are negotiating a contract and it is not going well.
The union decided to set up an informational picket line a few mornings ago. They wore black arm bands and marched in front of one of the local schools so that the parents and the community might become aware of the issues and that there was a danger of a strike.
As is typical at these early morning actions, some of the teachers brought muffins, doughnuts and coffee cake for the teacher protesters. They were set out on a card table by the informational picket line.
But as parents drove by, they thought it was a bake sale!
“How much for the coffee cake,” one of the moms asked? “How much for a muffin?”
