Good Monday morning. Teachers get their jobs back. Wing-nuts cry foul.
The news over the weekend included the report that the union and district officials at Central Falls High School in Rhode Island had reached an agreement that restored the jobs of the 100 teachers who had been fired a few months ago.
You may recall that the district, with the support of Arne Duncan and President Obama, had tried to paint a local labor dispute over work hours and compensation as teacher and union resistance to grand visions of school reform.
Well, surprise, surprise. The labor issues have been resolved and the teachers are back on the job.
Naturally, the ideologues of the “Reform” movement are crying foul.
Andy Smarick of Flypaper:
In total, based on what I’m seeing so far–and I’m open to being convinced otherwise–I’m hard-pressed to call this a victory.
Of course he doesn’t see it as a victory. They only win when teachers and students lose.
Wow! Good news for once. Thanks very much for posting this. I had no idea.
