Oh Fred, I am so sorry too hear this news.
Thank you for putting this up. Steve was a colleague of mine (albeit only for one year), and I was shocked to find out about his untimely death. He was an excellent guy, almost always smiling and very positive to be around. I was already going to miss him this coming school year, but now it will be even sadder that he will not even be around at all. (I know our FCA will miss him even more – he had made breakfast for the weekly FCA meetings almost every single week for over 20 years.)
The news last summer hit me like brick. I had known Steve for several years and always enjoyed his companionship. We had some great times at IEA/NEA activities. Our birthdays were only one week apart (Steve was older), so we would celebrate at the SLA most every summer. Tonight is the “Ride in Silence” bike ride across the nation. The event is used to commemorate those who were killed or hurt while riding. It is also used to bring attention to motorist about sharing the road. I will be riding in Peoria with Steve’s name and picture on my jersey.
