Nice work Audrey. We got bupkis.

August 24, 2010

When the vote to condemn Race to the Top came up before the NEA convention in New Orleans, the Illinois delegation was conspicuous in its opposition. Illinois leaders, Executive Director Audrey Soglin among the more emphatic, warned that we would anger the President if we voted to reject Race to the Top.

So having handed over our right to collectively bargain teacher evaluation, and supporting legislation requiring student performance measures tied to teacher evaluation as a mandatory part of  bargained contracts in every local in the state, Illinois got nothing.

Race to the Top losers were announced today and we were on that list.

Good thing we didn’t piss off Obama.

Giving up this right is a mistake, and I don’t know why some unions are doing it.
