Harmony teacher strike looms.
August 29, 2010
Belleville, Illinois – Another disagreement between Harmony-Emge School District 175′s teachers union and its school board has developed as the possibility of a teacher strike looms and the final negotiation session approaches.
According to Dave Comerford of the Illinois Federation of Teachers, the district broke ground rules established in the beginning of the negotiation process when the district’s attorney, Christi Flaherty, released to the News-Democrat details of the demands both parties are proposing.
“The teachers’ side is not happy with the development at all. It certainly doesn’t help perspective and it certainly doesn’t give the indication that they want to settle this,” Comerford said. “It kind of says that, ‘We’d rather bargain with the public than with you.’”
