Is the IEA serious about this election?
I’ve already written about the enthusiasm gap among IEA members for IPACE recommended candidates for statewide and federal office in Illinois.
The most that candidates like Governor Pat Quinn and Democratic nominee for Senate Alexi Giannoulias have going for them is that they are not a phony Republican moderate who is a congenital liar or a Tea Party loony.
The way the IEA works is that we have Grass Roots Political Activists at the Region level and Go-To political organizers in each Local.
I’m the Go-To guy in my Local.
Impressed?
Well the IEA doesn’t seem to be. Early voting starts 19 days from today. I have not received one piece of mail, phone call, email or other communications from the state organization. Not one.
I’ve had a suspicion that the state leadership wouldn’t be all that unhappy if Mark Kirk actually won the Senate race. Or at least they could live with it. They’ve endorsed him so often you would think he’s a dues paying member.
But I thought they were serious about defeating the crazy Brady.
I guess not that serious.
I am an IEA-R member and have received a flier stating the differences between Quinn and Brady along with the ADVOCATE.
I’m not retired. Yet. I’m not sure of your point. We have less than a month to register unregistered members and voting starts in less than three weeks. Quinn is down 20 points. And you got one flier in the mail.
It seems to me that our local should have gotten hundred of fliers to distribute, a coordinated plan of action…in a word: leadership. What does an IEA endorsement mean after all is said and done.
When I asked political director Jim Reed back in July about the enthusiasm gap that existed among the members I work with and know, he promised that this was a problem they could solve.
Have they?
Not around here.
