IEA retirees say “no” to teacher retirement tax.

November 18, 2010

From Ed Rosenthal, IEA-Retired.

Fred,

West Suburban Retired Chapter voted unanimously against these 3 changes at our meeting yesterday. IEA-Retired members have been there opposing changes that affect new teachers and current teachers even though they would not affect us. It would be nice if the active members would have our backs on taxing pension benefits. This same issue came up 5 years ago when the IEA Legislative Committee asked the same question. Just because someone proposes it doesn’t mean we have to agree with it. We said “No” 5 years ago; let’s say “NO” again! Retirees paid our share during our working years. Now it’s proposed that we pay income tax specifically to pay the state’s share too? Seems like it should be a no brainer to me!!

Bravo Ed! I have been working hard to spread the word to fellow retirees. NO ONE thinks this is a good idea.
