Mark Kirk likes state default plan.
January 21, 2011
Illinois GOP Senator Mark Kirk has joined in the chorus of those who would change the law to allow states to go into default. It would, among a number of things, result in public employee pensions being put at greater risk.
CBS:
Freshman U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) says bankruptcy should be considered as an option for some states – such as Illinois – looking to get out from under crushing debt.
As WBBM Newsradio 780 Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, some on Capitol Hill are looking for ways to allow the states to get bankruptcy protection from pension debt and other obligations.

This is incredible. My husband says, if it ever happened, it would bring the whole country down. Don’t these morons know this? Do they think at all?
Nothing surprises me anymore Fred. The concept of a contract or a promise seems to evade these so called “business friendly” types. Every now and then someone will get elected and will do what’s right as opposed to what will get them elected. But I guess that’s giving most of our elected officials too much credit.
Bob Dold ran on the 10Th. Dist. on the fact that he was a family business man. Nobody ever heard of the guy, I guess we just assumed on Dan Seals. So who’s minding the store, Bob? Senator Kirk is attached at the hip to the military industrial gizmo. Both spent plenty of Karl Rove’s blood money to get elected. As well as the Chamber of Commerce, the NAM, and the Gun nuts, too….. The usual suspects. The oldest and truest enemies of organized labor and the aspirations of working people.
The Supreme Court’s opinion on campaign reform has cleared the way for fixing the system at the state level. That’s where we should be aiming. I say we ban all contributions to all candidates seeking public office in Illinois. Then they’ll be forced to get out of the limo, or the studio, and meet us once again. Act fast before the Tucson thing brings down another wall of desperation for them to hide behind.
Here’s the irony, Matt. The IEA endorsed Kirk when he ran for Congress in the 10th CD and again when he ran in the Republican primary for Senate. So, not only did he receive Chamber of Commerce, anti-union money, he received teacher union money too! And shame on the IEA.
It’s appalling, Fred. It’s like the nuclear arms race in redux. They’re raising billions of our dollars and giving it right over to the paid media. The ability to grease candidates with ever larger contributions has silently, and utterly corrupted our entire political system. It must be stopped cold. How did bribing politicians with cash become a form of free speech, anyhow? It’s pure sophistry.
