Wisconsin comes to Ohio today as thousands of union members rally at the Statehouse.
Firefighter Mark Pelfrey said a proposed bill that would alter collective bargaining rights for public employees would essentially knock him and thousands of other public union employees out of the middle class.
That’s why Pelfrey will make the 90-mile trek up Interstate 71 from his Trenton home to protest against the passage of Ohio Senate Bill 5.
The Massachusetts Teachers Association and other labor organizations are planning simultaneous rallies today in support of Wisconsin educators and other public employees who face the loss of collective bargaining rights under a proposal made by Republican Governor Scott Walker.
The events will be held at 4 p.m. at the State House and Springfield City Hall. Also attending will be members of the AFL-CIO, AFSCME, SEIU, Jobs with Justice, and other pro-labor groups.
Hundreds of public employees and other protesters showed up at the Capitol on Monday to oppose proposed budget cuts and show solidarity with Wisconsin government workers.

The union members gathered just before noon on Monday at the Grant Sawyer Building in downtown Las Vegas. Union members say what is happening in Wisconsin could have far reaching implications.

Tennessee teachers are getting ready to rally in show of support against some of the legislation being proposed by state lawmakers and Governor Bill Haslam.
The Tennessee Education Association is urging all teachers to take part in the march to Legislative Plaza on Saturday, March 5 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. They’re meeting at the Bicentennial Mall in Downtown Nashville, and asking everyone to wear red.
