Friday starts Spring Break. We get Friday off as a comp day for evening parent conferences. So technically today isn’t hump day. We’re over the hump. Let’s catch up with some things in the file.
Michelle Rhee and Diane Ravitch on the same list? Really?
It kind of hurt my eyes to see the names of Diane Ravitch and Michelle Rhee on the same page in Catalyst’s continuing report of potential CPS CEOs. Diane is one of the true great thinkers about schools. Rhee is…well, you know what Rhee is.
TRS scare.
Former IEA President Bob Haisman warned the IEA RA that the question isn’t if they’re gonna mess with our pensions this year, but when? The Trib prints a fairy tale of an article describing the dire financial position of our TRS fund and pushes local funding. Where will that money come from? Teacher salaries, of course. The article is part of the ongoing Tribune campaign to scare the legislature into destroying employee pensions.
Illinois going after teacher collective bargaining?
IEA Government Relations is hearing rumors that some legislators are looking at Wisconsin’s attack on collective bargaining and they like what they see. They’re asking that you call your members of the General Assembly and tell them nicely that it is a screwy idea.
