Rochester’s gain is Chicago’s loss. Rahm’s choice is a disaster.
Chicago’s mayor-elect has made a hell of a blunder in his first appointments to run CPS.
Even The Chicago Tribune describes Brizard’s tenure as superintendent of Rochester, NY as “mired in questions and controversy.” Graduation rates, test scores and teacher morale all plummeted.
His choice of Penny Pritzker to sit on the school board? Amazing. Approaching a year of negotiations with the Chicago Teachers Union, the new mayor selects a rabid union hater as a member of the board.
The image of the Pritzker-owned Hyatt’s housekeeper standing in front of the Hyatt Regency on April 9th, a broom in one hand and a microphone in the other, should be seared into every teacher’s memory. Unable to get the fabulously rich Pritzkers to settle on a union contract with hotel workers, union teachers should expect no better treatment from Rahm and his millionaire pals who now run the city and its schools.
