SB 512. It comes down to today.

May 30, 2011

We thought the vote might be last Friday.

Then Saturday.

But Saturday they adjourned early for the Memorial Day holiday.

They reconvened last night. It was long enough to turn SB 175, which had been a shell bill about open meetings, into a bill that would increase the cost of health insurance for retired teachers.

Talk about kicking you when you’re down.

Then they adjourned until this morning.

They will vote on the teacher pension killer today.

Nobody is predicting the outcome.

Over the past weeks, we have made 100,000 phone calls and sent 100,000 emails.

Nobody has ever done that before in Illinois about any issue. Ever.

Some Representatives, like Park Ridge’s Rosemary (“I don’t need to talk to you. I’m running unopposed.”) Mulligan, have simply unplugged their phones.

The vote is today. But, as of 9AM the vote hasn’t gone down.

So, you can keep calling. 1 888 421 6570.

Until they vote, there aren’t any “no” votes.

They’ll be time enough for counting when the dealing’s done. -Kenny Rogers.

I see your Kenny Rogers quote and raise you with a Tom Petty quote:

The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you see one more card
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part

Time for our representatives to show their cards.

    Fred,
Some teachers at Roosevelt who live in Park Ridge have reported to me that they’ve spoken Mulligan’s office and they were told that she would be voting AGAINST SB512. Seems highly unusua,l but just so you know.

For every teacher that has managed to talk to Mulligan, there has been a different, or qualified response. I just keep saying that there are no “no” votes until they are cast. Park Ridge folks should keep calling. That is, if she has plugged her phone back in.

I just saw a “live blog” update at Capital Fax.com that Madigan/Cross have released a statement about pension reform – there will be no vote on SB512 this session, but there will be more pension hearings during the summer with a vote during the Fall Veto session
