Off grid
We are heading north today from Grand Teton National Park just a few miles to Yellowstone.
What is almost impressive as the incredible beauty of this part of Wyoming is the people we have met who work for the National Park Service.
I just spent an hour listening to a Park Ranger as she taught a group of us about the different kinds of “cats” and “dogs” that live in the park. She was terrific.
Yesterday Mary Sue led a group of us on horseback up a ways into the Teton range.
We spotted two bears along the way.
Mary Sue is a proud and life-long resident of Wyoming, the first state to give women the vote. One story goes that they approved the vote for women because there were few women living here. The men were lonely and they thought suffrage would attract some women to move here.
Always an ulterior motive for freedom.
The next few days of our road trip will be through territory that is very much off the grid.
I want to send good wishes to the teachers heading for DC tomorrow and marching Saturday to save our schools.
Give ‘em hell!

Congrats on the Reader coverage, Fred! Your Klonskyesque activism helps all of us who are in the same boat.
