The honorable Kevin McCarthy
I hope you are proud of the Pension reform Law Public Act 096-0889 signed
recently by the Governor. I graduated from Chicago State University in 1969.
That September I began my career as a Chicago Public School teacher .If I came in under your
plan I would have four years to go before retirement. No one can stand up to such a job
For 45 years, which is how long a 22 year old teacher starting this September will have to work
for a full pension. Personally I will have taught 41 years this June .But then I went to a
college that
prepared us for the task ahead. Why don’t you go to the graduation of new teachers and tell them
how this new law will save the pension system?
I read everything I can about Illinois Government including at least the condensed version
of every proposed law. Reading the final report of the Governors Pension Modernization Task
Force is very reveling .It is no wonder the report was not quoted since it places the blame for
pension underfunding directly at the statehouse door. This crisis came about because
those officials we the people elected to office passed the buck for decades .I stand in unison with the
new members ,especially teachers, and feel what you do to any of my faculty you do to me.
Sincerely:
Robert J Busch MS.ED.
