The one percenters toast champaign. Teachers get drano.

October 31, 2011

From Mark.

Just watched, yet again, HBO’s Too Big to Fail, the story of the banking/housing crisis that nearly collapsed our economic system.  Credits at the end of the film mentioned that by 2010 Wall Street compensation had set a new record high; this being a year after the great bailout of these scoundrels by the American taxpayer.

When the bankers were challenged about these bonuses, they defended their greed, insisting that a ‘talent drain’ would occur if they didn’t give these obscene sums of money to their employees.
Talent Drain.
If that concept is persuasive to lawmakers in DC, why isn’t it shaping the pension conversation in Springfield?
Oh, wait, I get it.  Who the hell needs talented people in education?
Illinois is Broke scream the billboards paid for by the clowns who seem determined to make that canard fly.
They’re off to a good start.  They’ve already undermined the foundation of a solvent and fair pension system with their tier plan.
Now, they seem determined to insure that only youthful, naive Peace Corps type idealists will enter the profession (and, being smart, will leave it quickly).  With bargaining rights handcuffed and tenure eroded thanks to SB512, a final, toxic bill lurks in the legislature.
So, here’s to those who would publicly execute public education: while Cross, Fayner, and the boys will be toasting with champagne, the students, teachers, and families of Illinois will have something else in their flutes.
Drano.
