IEA: Michigan teachers under attack. See something. Say something.
Last April I caught hell for criticizing IEA Communication Director Charlie McBarron. McBarron:
In your blog, you make much of the inclusion of a particular link to an item in the daily news summary.
McBarron thought I was out of line to suggest that the IEA website feature called In the News was wrong for linking without comment to an attack on the Michigan Education Association by the Mackinac Center, the right-wing anti-union phony think tank.
McBarron wrote me.
IN THE NEWS comes out every working day. We collect a thousand or so links every month and deliver them to our subscribers. It’s a time-consuming job.
Perhaps if we took the time to research every item we wouldn’t have included this one. Perhaps. This item did include a quote from my MEA colleague, so it seemed appropriate for inclusion.
Now the very same Mackinac Center has been exposed for secretly sending emails and lobbying, possibly illegally, Michigan legislators in an attempt to destroy the MEA and collective bargaining.
Can I suggest that McBarron might include mention of this important news story in the In the News feature. IEA members might want and need to know what is going on in Michigan? The MEA is in a fight for its life.
As McBarron goes through his thousands of stories, I’m afraid he might miss it. Let me help. He can find the story here on the MEA website.
