Christine Turney. RIP.
December 21, 2011
I have known Chris Turney for twenty years.
She was a wonderful music teacher, my IEA Region Chair for years, a member of the IEA Board of Directors and the NEA Board of Directors.
Chris passed away last evening after battling a recent illness and surgery.
When it came to fighting for students, teachers and her union, she was what we used to call a tough cookie.
Over the past few years, in spite of recurring health battles, she was an active retiree, a leader in the Illinois Retired Teachers Association in Dupage County.
You could often read her comments on this blog, particularly when the issue was retired teacher issues.
I will miss her.

Wow. What a loss. I was on the opposite side of an argument with Chris a long, long time ago, when I was young and stupid. She was never anything less than a class act, I’ll say that much.
Chris alway had a gentle way when making a serious point. She will be missed!
Her husband called and told me she was in the hospital. It just so happened that I was, too. The same hospital… I was on the third floor, Chris was on the second. The moment I was discharged I went to visit her. The room was empty. I asked one of the nurses where they moved her. The nurse looked hard into my eyes and asked how I knew her. “Knew” her? I just about fell to the ground. Chris… I am so sorry I wasn’t there for you!!!! You asked for me and I wasn’t there. I miss you so much…I am so sorry
CHRISTINE WAS NOT AN ORDINARY WOMAN
SHE WAS AN AGENT OF CHANGE. IF YOU ONLY HAD LIMITED CONTACT
WITH HER SHE COULD CHANGE YOUR MOOD.
IF YOU SAW HER ON A REGULAR BASIC, SHE COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
