There will be lots of other politicians.
Including the Mayor.
There were five hundred funerals for victims of gun violence in Chicago last year.
There will be more than that this year.
Gun deaths have declined in cities all around the country in the past decade. They were declining in Chicago too.
Until last year.
Nobody at the funeral for Hadiya Pendleton will say that the Mayor has some major responsibility in the rise of gun violence among Chicago’s young people.
But many will know it is true.
