Tzimmes and borscht is a Yiddish expression expressing the idea of mixing apples and oranges. Here is a bunch of unconnected posts:

Nilaja Sun does No Child in Chicago.

A group of teachers from my school joined me and we went to see Nilaja Sun do her one-woman show, No Child. I saw it last year when it was in NY. Now she is performing at Chicago’s Lookingglass Theater. The show is great. Her performance nails it. The audience last night included sixth through eighth graders from two Chicago schools. From their responses, they thought the show was great as well. Sun will be in Chicago through November 11th and then on the road including Boston and Berkeley, California. Catch it if you can.

DFER’s Joe Williams attacks Democrats for not supporting Republican for school board.

Don’t try to make too much sense out of this. I mean, we’re talking about Joe Williams, the hired gun blogger for Democrats for Education Reform. But Joe’s latest campaign is to attack the Franklin County Democratic Party and the Columbus Education Association because they won’t support a Republican supporter of charters for the Columbus School Board. The state of charter schools in Ohio has now turned into a major scandal.

What is DFER’s Williams upset about. Why the head of the local Dems had the nerve to say of the Republican:

While I am respectful of your views, I have had a number of individuals and committee members relate to me that they have grave concerns about your views on charter schools, privitization of school services and unions. They feel your views are not consistent with many of the Party’s core values…

For Williams, that’s not a reason for withholding support. That’s a campaign platform.
