Welcome to Bizarro World.

Back in the sixties there was a comic book called Bizarro World.

Also known as Htrae, which is Earth spelled backwards, of course.

Everything was backwards in Bizarro World. They followed the Bizzaro Code: “Us do opposite of all Earthly things! Us hate beauty! Us love ugliness! Is big crime to make anything perfect on Bizarro World!”

As I follow the debate over the so-called fiscal cliff in Washington and the pension fight in Illinois, I have come to believe that Illinois is actually Bizarro World.

In Washington the Democrats seem to be defending social programs like Medicare and Social Security for retirees and promoting taxing the wealthy.

In Illinois the Democrats are defending taxing the wealthy and for cutting state pensions for retirees.

This is what the White House says about the Republican attacks on Social Security:

The President is committed to protecting and strengthening Social Security—and securing the basic compact that hard work should be rewarded with dignity at retirement or in case of disability or early death.  That’s why he has called on Congress to work on a bipartisan basis to preserve Social Security as a reliable source of income for American seniors and as a program that provides robust benefits to survivors and workers who develop disabilities.  He believes that no current beneficiaries should see their basic benefits reduced and he will not accept an approach that slashes benefits for future generations.  The President also stands firmly opposed to privatization and rejects the notion that the future of hard-working Americans should be left to the fluctuations of financial markets.

What do the Democrats in Illinois want to do about our basic compact that was intended to “secure that hard work should be rewarded with dignity at retirement or in case of disability or early death?”

They want to make us choose between an annual yearly cost of living increase or some undefined health plan.

They want to make active teachers pay more, work longer and get less. The exact plan that the Republicans are offering in Washington.

Welcome to Illinois.

Where up is down.

Black is white.

And Democrats are Republicans.

Bizarro World.

  1. Indeed, it is a known secret that Illinois legislators are falsely true because they are genuinely fake!

“[Ah, Fred, there is] No light, but rather darkness visible [in Springfield, Illinois.]” –John Milton, Paradise Lost

  2. Tomorrow night I am going to a county Democratic Party meeting in Florida and the annual officer election event. I will, again, tell them what is happening in Illinois. I can be pretty sure that they will again avert their eyes and wish I wasn’t there.
Today I read that 49% of republicans believe that the non-existent Acorn organization caused Romney to lose the election. Tomorrow with Florida democrats I will witness the same magical thinking and denial of reality.
There is a madness in the land that makes me doubt my own sanity, until I realize that our propagandized American people are all nuts.
