  1. Glad you chose Pat Conroy. I knew him as a teacher in S.C., and he was a teacher at heart his entire adult life. He fought for his students, got ousted by the Super, and his book, The Water is Wide, and his movie, Conrack, were banned in Beaufort, SC.
Embracing and fighting for black children and poor children, was not supported in the 1970s. White children attended private segregated schools in Beaufort County Schools. My own journey led me down the same path, same time, same place. He and I used to compare stories of oppression.
Pat Conroy was an inspiration and a support to me at that time. He remained dedicated to exposing the unfair treatment of poor children in that region until his death.
    Thanks, Pat!
