Cassie Cresswell of Chicago’s Raise Your Hand sent me over a spreadsheet of the impact of CPS cuts in just one Chicago ward, the 32nd. Progressive Caucus member Scott Waguespack is the alderman.
As you can see, 2017 projected enrollment is up. 2016 20th day enrollment is up for the ward. Even so, there is a loss of one teaching position in the entire ward, with 8 lost teaching positions at Darwin. Total cuts equal $1.4 million dollars.
Darwin has lost its nationally recognized music program and has taken the biggest hit both in budget and teaching positions. Darwin’s enrollment loss was tiny.
Updated enrollment numbers may change all this slightly. For example, an expected increase in Darwin enrollment may decrease the budget cut.
