Having Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers join us on Hitting Left with the Klonsky Brothers is more like friends hanging out and talking on the back porch than a radio show/podcast.
Mike remembers 50 years ago when he was not much more than a kid from California. Bernardine was not much more than a kid from Rogers Park.
Mike asked, “Do you want to do this?” And Bernardine saying, “I don’t know. Do you want to do this?”
The next thing they know they are the national leaders of the largest radical student organization in the United States.
This is Bill’s third time on our radio show/podcast.
Bernardine wanted to know why she hasn’t been on three times.
The answer is simple: She is always on the road. She is modest about sharing her history and wisdom. But that is just what she does these days and is welcomed by a younger generation of activists.
We promised to do better and have her back way more often.
They just came back from visiting the National Museum for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama.
I hold on to the image she presented of tearing down CookCounty jail at 26th and California and replacing it with affordable housing and a beautiful park.
