If you are like me and go back some years in the Chicago Movement the names Sadlowski and Stamps are not new to you.
Tara Stamps is the daughter of the late Marion Stamps who organized the fight for justice for Chicago Housing Authority residents of Cabrini-Green.
Susan Sadlowski Garza is the daughter of Eddie Sadlowski. Ed, who passed away last year, was my leader in the Steel Workers Union reform fight in South Chicago.
Sue was one of the first guests we had on Hitting Left two years ago.
There is some kind of DNA thing about fighting for justice in this town.
Sue is running again for a second term as alderman in Eddie Vrdolyak’s old ward.
Tara is running against the pro-charter alderman on the west side, Emma Mitts.
There is also a thing about perseverance.
There are many progressives who needed to run several times in order to beat The Machine.
Harold always said politics ain’t bean bag. Good things don’t come easy.
Dianne Daleiden took on Pat O’Connor, the powerful ally of Rahm Emanuel last time, and got 40% of the vote.
Daleiden is running again.
And then there is Erika Wozniak.
Erika is a teacher and co-host of the popular monthly gathering at the Hideout, The Girl Talk.
We have never had four guests in the tiny studio at Lumpen Radio before.
Women. Activists, Teachers.
