There’s good news this morning.
In what I interpret as a rejection of IEA leadership by retired teacher members of the Illinois Teacher Retirement System, former IEA President Cinda Klickna lost her attempt to remain as a trustee.
From the Illinois Retired Teacher Association:
IRTA member & East Moline, Ill. resident Doug Strand of the Blackhawk Retired Teachers has won the election for TRS annuitant trustee. Strand was unanimously endorsed for the position by the IRTA Board of Directors.Strand was informed Friday morning via email by TRS Executive Director Richard Ingram:“Mr. Strand, Congratulations, you have been elected to serve in the open annuitant seat on the TRS board. Your term begins on July 15th, but I would encourage you to attend the June board meeting as a helpful transition to your new responsibilities. We will be in touch to help you prepare for your service on the board.”Trustees are instrumental in setting policy for the TRS staff personnel to carryout. They approve the investment strategies and provide oversight. The two elected TRS annuitant trustee positions have always served as the voice of IRTA members on the board.IRTA expects more information and official election results to be disseminated in the near future. IRTA will send and post all election data for its members as it becomes available.
