I’m exposed!

Dear Mr. Velderman:

I Just read this disconcerting blog post from a public school art teacher whom I respect and admire immensely.

In fact I have already investigated his work and I can provide some useful inside information.

I filmed in his classroom as he taught 3rd graders how they can use art to imagine and draw the future
of their community.  The kids had wonderful ideas and expressed them beautifully under Mr. Klonsky’s thoughtful direction.  It was one of the best experiences I have had as a documentary filmmaker in a public school setting.

In fact Mr. Klonsky’s teaching is featured in the GO TO 2040 regional planning outreach program sponsored by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.

It’s a well known initiative in our region.

Mr. Klonsky’s work with his students has been seen all over this region as a way to engage children in envisioning a better future.

I have seen many good teachers and am always amazed by the energy, dedication and creativity
that flows from the best veterans in the profession.  Mr. Klonsky is one of the best art teachers I have seen. During the filming he was also mentoring a younger art teacher.

Yes, I realize that Mr. Klonsky represents teachers as their union leader and that there are serious issues and disagreements roiling schools, districts and our society in general in light of budget cuts.   There are even some new documentaries on the topic.

So please help me understand your vision to improve the quality of life in our community and how you plan to enhance our community by investigating Mr. Klonsky’s emails?

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Jeff Spitz
