You have to wonder if the editorial writers at the Belleville News-Democrat down near St. Louis sit around the office smokin’ a joint.
How else could you explain an editorial that says this on the one hand:
If a private business allowed its pension to be underfunded so badly, the responsible parties probably would be in jail.
And this on the other hand?
Future pension benefits have to be decreased for current employees, not just new hires.
This has become the standard media mantra.
A thief broke into your home and stole all your stuff. The thief should go to jail. But instead we think the real problem is you own too much stuff.
We call this theory “shared sacrifice.”
