Saturday coffee.

The Bloomingdale Trail.

The rain finally stopped this morning. It’s has been raining on and off for a week.

The temperature won’t get above 60 until Monday when we warm up enough for me to go to work in just a sweater.

But this morning the sun is shining. The mortar guys are finishing tuck pointing our 130 year old brick walls and the carpenters come back on Monday to finish rebuilding the roof.

The neighbor’s chickens are out in the yard. Our neighbor told me that Logan Square has more live chickens per capita than any other neighborhood in the City.

I’m pretty sure it has more bicyclists as well.

I read that they estimate almost 3,000 bicyclists use Milwaukee Avenue, which runs through the heart of Logan Square, each day to get downtown.

Later this afternoon I will function as a docent and take a group on and along the Bloomingdale Trail, an elevated but no longer active railroad line, that runs from the west side of Logan Square to Ashland. That’s about 3.5 miles. It is being purchased from Canadian National and is being transformed into a bike, walking and running trail.

Three elementary schools are directly adjacent to the Bloomingdale Trail. A half dozen others are close to it. It has spectacular views of the city and connects four neighborhoods.

Logan Square ranks 49th out of 50 wards in terms of open space. We don’t need more chickens. But there’s always a need for parks.
