Looking through the IEA proposed budget.

The state union convention, the IEA RA, is in March.

Delegates will be attending budget hearing around the state over the next few weeks. I received the budget book last week.

Interesting things I noticed:

  • Membership is down to 106,000 full-time members. That’s a decline of 1% from a year ago.
  • The Budget Committee is proposing a $5 increase in dues. State dues would then be $420. That inevitably gets reduced by the time the budget is passed at the RA.
  • They claim that $4 of the increase is a result of membership loss. That would mean it would have been a $1 increase otherwise. I have never seen a $1 dues increase ever.
  • We will still be paying a “surcharge” of $5 for the Communications Department’s terrible media campaign.
  • $7.56 of our $420 goes to the Executive Director’s Office. Who knows what this means?
  • IEA Executive Director Audrey Soglin and IEA President Cinda Klickna each get a base salary of $185,000.

What did you notice?
