Rockford teachers end strike and overwhelmingly approve settlement.

While I was visiting back east with my family in Brooklyn there came the news of a settlement in nearby Rockford.

“Teachers were thrilled to be going back to the classroom, but I’ll tell you, they were very resolute and would have stayed out as long as it took to get this agreement,” REA President Karen Bieschke said after the ratification meeting.

Details of the agreement haven’t been released yet.

The decision to strike came with a vote of the members that favored the walkout by 95%.

Support for the settlement was by an equal if not greater margin.
