Greetings from the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. While we won a battle on May 31 to prevent the House from passing the pension “reform” legislation, the war is still on as legislative leaders and the Governor promised to try again — SOON! They want to solve the state’s budget woes with your money, and they blame you. They offered you a coerced choice to give up your COLA for access to an unguaranteed health insurance plan.
We must prepare for the possibility that one of these attacks may succeed. For that reason IRTA has launched the IRTA Legal Defense Fund. A day late and a dollar short.
The video announcing the untimely “launching” of a defense fund is-insulting-to-our-intelligence-as-it-proudly-takes-credit-for-the-magnificent-battles-won-by-IRTA-to-date-against-the-state-legislature’s-attempt-to-change-our-pension-program.
To put it bluntly, Gary Elman sits awkwardly, sun glaring across his face, in front of his laptop s-l-o-w-l-y reading his script in a droning monologue that displays everything that is mockable by the Bill Gates’ teacher bashing pro-privatization groups. Why would any sane person sit and semi-sleep through a rallying cry of sorts by this man as he “educates” by talking down to us, his students?
Give IRTA money? Why? If this is the best IRTA can do and offer at this late date as it pretends to be on the battle front, only divine intervention can help us.
I, personally, am willing to dig deeply into my pocket for a pension legal defense fund. For this “leadership” group? No.
“Ken! Hey, we are the only game in town!”
* I’ll pay for candles to burn at the side of altars in my local church. At least my money won’t be wasted.
“Hey, that is a divide and conquer attitude. The terrorists will win.”
