Breaking: Chicago strike date set: Monday, September 10th.

On Wednesday, a standing-room-only House of Delegates, representing schools & citywide educators across the city set a potential start date of Monday, September 10, 2012, for a strike of more than 26,000 teachers, clinicians and paraprofessionals.

The resolution reads:

RESOLVED that the House of Delegates shall set a strike date of September 10, 2012.

The strike is necessary to achieve a labor contract with acceptable wages, benefits and job protections; and for all other purposes for which a strike is authorized under law. The strike is also necessary to protest unfair labor practices committed by CPS against our membership.

  1. TO MY FELLOW TEACHERS!!! GOOD LUCK! WE THE DOWNSTATE TEACHERS SUPPORT YOUR EFFORTS. WE AS EDUCATOR HAVE BEEN ASKED TO FIX THE WOES OF SOCIETY SINCE EDUCATION BEGAN. IT IS NOT UNREASONABLE TO EXPECT TO BE GIVEN A WORKING WAGE, BENEFITS, AND JOB SECURITY. IF YOU ARE IN BUSINESS AND YOU WANT A TOP CEO, YOU PAY FOR IT. IN EDUCATION IF YOU WANT QUALITY TEACHERS THE SAME RULES APPLY. I CONSTANTLY ASK MYSELF WHY THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST WOULD ENTER A PROFESSION CONSTANTLY UNDER ATTACK? THE REASON IS WE CARE, WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE, AND WE ARE THE SHAPERS OF THE FUTURE. GOOD LUCK WE ARE WITH YOU!!!!!
