  1. Referring to Fahner, Thompson and pension tax holidays made my blood boil. What did Thompson get for this theft? Twenty years in jail? The electric chair?
    No.
    He was aggrandized by having a giant state government building named after him, the James R. Thompson Government Center. In front of this edifice is Jean Dubuffet’s sculpture “Monument to a Standing Beast.” Irony #1
    It was so poorly constructed with state tax money that it was scheduled to be sold or torn down if a buyer could be found. No buyer wants it. It’s too costly to repair and run. It’s too expensive to tear down. Irony #2
