Cabrera Capital and TRS.

Just a quick update.

When we are told that TRS did not contract with Cabrera Capital as a broker, that is technically true.

Portfolio managers contract with the brokers.

TRS publishes here all their contracted portfolio managers.

And also here is the list of brokers.

It seems to me that this is a case of parsing words. To say that TRS does not contract with Cabrera Capital is true. Although they are not contracted with directly, Cabrera is associated with TRS and is listed on their web site as one of the top 50 brokers. In fact they are number 15 out of 50.

  1. There is also an article in the 9/5 Reader (p.11–Ben Joravsky–“Come to the South Loop & See How Mayor Rahm’s Wasting Your Money”) indicating that CenterPoint Properties (one of the TIF purchases involving the DePaul Arena & hotel complex) is owned by…CalPERS–aka the California Public Employees’ Retirement System! Ben says, “So the mayor’s proposing to take millions from CPS teachers & use it to pay a public school teachers’ pension fund in CA not to develop its South Loop property. It’s nice that some teachers might benefit from this boondoggle. Too bad you have to cross the country to find them.”
