
What started with a small group of unionized workers in an industrial section of Chicago’s north side has now been adopted as a tactic by one of the country’s largest unions, the Service Employees International Union.
Workers at the HartMarx plant in suburban Des Plaines have voted to occupy their production facility if Wells Fargo Bank, a major recipient of TARP money, forces the liquidation of the company. At the present time, that is the plan of Wells Fargo.
Like it did for the workers at Republic Windows and Doors who sat in last December, these fight-back tactics are winning broad public and political support.
