The in box. 24 hours and too close to call.

Nearly 24 hours after polls closed in Illinois’ Democratic primary election, the race between incumbent Rep. Toni Berrios and insurgent progressive candidate Will Guzzardi in the 39th State Representative District remained too close to call.

Guzzardi, a former journalist and community activist, pledged to continue monitoring the process and to fight to ensure that every vote is counted.

“This election is incredibly close, and voters deserve to be able to have confidence in the electoral process,” said Guzzardi Campaign Manager Rebecca Reynolds. “We’re working with the Board of Elections to make sure that every vote gets counted fairly and accurately.”

According to the Board of Elections, Guzzardi had received 3,870 votes, or 49.29%, while Berrios had received 3,981 votes, or 50.71%, but some precincts still had uncounted votes as of Wednesday evening. Absentee and provisional ballots had yet to be counted. To schedule an interview with Will Guzzard, please contact Rebecca Reynolds at (773) 424-2012.
