Chicago Congressman violates House decorum. House what?

Chicago Congressman Bobby Rush gave a speech on the US House floor today. It was moving message about the murdered teenager Trayvon Martin. As he neared the end of his talk, he pulled a hoodie over his head and put on a pair of shades.

“A hoodie doesn’t make you a hoodlum,” said the Chicago Congressman.

To the presiding officer of the House, this was a violation of House decorum and the sergeant of arms was called to remove Congressman Rush from the well of the House.

Here’s the video:

House decorum?

What the hell is that?

In a far-too-frequent display of House decorum, the present Republican Speaker, Ohio Congressman John Boehner is known for handing out bribe money on the House floor.

Congressman Rush, honoring the young folks of America for speaking up in protest over the events of Sanford, Florida on the House floor isn’t decorous.

John Boehner handing out tobacco industry bribe money?

No problem.

  1. Although I understand your point, I’m old-fashioned enough to believe that hats do not belong on peoples’ heads indoors. Whether it was necessary to hustle the Representative out or not is, of course, another matter.

    1. Sure. And I’m old fashioned enough to feel that bribing Congressman should be done in the cloak room and not out in the open on the House floor. My God. Where is the propriety!

  2. And, can I just say MomNancy, that if you ever tried to make my late uncle Louis take his yarmulke off, inside or off, you would have major tsuris on your hands.

  3. Isn’t tsuris spelled tsouris? (Read “Pissed Off Teacher” blog–Ms. Tsouris frequently posts comments.)
