When Harold Washington was Mayor, speaking to huge crowds of loving supporters, he would say, “In the old days, when you told people in other countries – England, China, Bombai – that you were from Chicago, they would say, ‘Boom-boom! Rat-a-tat-tat!’ Nowadays, they say [and the crowd would loudly join with him], ‘How’s Harold?‘!” And Harold would throw back his head and laugh. And the crowd would laugh and let out a roar of approval.
