By law, if you work for CPS you have to live in Chicago.
Unless you’re the Chief Operating Officer Tim Cawley. He got a pass to live in north suburban Winnetka.
But it has recently been disclosed that CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett actually lives and votes in Cleveland, which is not even a suburb of Chicago.
And now it turns out the Republican gubernatorial candidate and Rahm’s best friend Bruce Rauner also lives in Winnetka but votes in Chicago.
Last week, the Daily Herald ran an interesting piece about how Mr. Rauner improperly had claimed homestead exemptions on three separate residences. The law says you’re supposed to get the tax break on only one residence, but Mr. Rauner for several years declared it on a Winnetka home, and on a Chicago penthouse and a condo located in the same building.
Rauner spokesman Chip Englander described the situation as “an oversight that was corrected immediately” after the Herald ran its story. Indeed, Mr. Rauner last Thursday wrote a $1,616 check to Cook County compensating it for what it was owed.
“Englander said Thursday that the Winnetka address is currently Rauner’s primary residence,” the Herald reported.
However, since October 2008, Mr. Rauner’s legal voting residence has been at 340 E. Randolph St. in Chicago. And, according to Chicago Board of Elections spokesman Jim Allen, the law is clear: ‘You should register at your primary residence.” The courts have upheld that standard many times, he said.
So, where does Mr. Rauner live? In Chicago, where he votes, or in Winnetka, where he gets the tax break and where his wife, Diana Rauner, is registered to vote?
A couple of points need to be made.
First is that CPS teachers don’t get a waiver to live outside the City.
Second is that during this year’s teacher strike, Bruce Rauner was all over the media defending his BFF Rahm, ripping teachers and talking about our schools as if, well, as if he lived here.
And just as an aside, recent redistricting of Chicago has cut up the community of Logan Square into so many wards that the new ward boundaries has my toilet in one ward and my TV is in another.
I eat dinner in a third.
All I know is that I’m not in Kansas.

I’m about to turn 65. Nothing surprises me. But that doesn’t keep me from mentioning it.
Rauner is already a liar and a cheater and he hasn’t been elected to public office. Oops, I forgot, he is a member of the Civic Committee..that explains everything.
Perhaps BBB and Rauner are geographically challenged and honestly believe that Cleveland and Winnetka are wards in Chicago. Since they have never attended CPS, at least they can’t blame their faulty GPS on them!
At least the Daily Herald took the time and interest to look into this. What about the supposed journalists at the Trib & Sun Times? I know I shouldn’t be so foolish.
We have massive corruption problems in L.A. also. You are lucky to have CTU and Karen Lewis and her friends and supporters. At LAUSD we have one more undecided board seat. A teacher who is also a lawyer, Monica Ratliff, is running for that seat. She got to the second stage of the election by preventing the corporate privatizer financed by Mayor Villaraigosa, King Tony, with over $1.3 million and she only had $14,000. Amazing. Now it is for the whole thing soon in the next election. If she is elected the board vote goes from 4-3 for the devils to 4-3 for the angels. All is turned on its head in the second largest school district in the U.S. with the highest number of charter schools anywhere, about 260 now and growing. Therefore, please do what you can do to help elect Monica Ratliff as this race has national implications. Imagine if the second larges district in the U.S. goes for parents, students, teachers and the community instead of for the billionaires. There are now 3 good, angel, votes. We need the fourth for a 4-3 for the angels to help stop this insanity now going on nationally. Then there could be the 2nd largest, LAUSD, and the third largest, Chicago, going our of their control. The difference in LAUSD is that we are not mayoral controlled. This means that our elected board, not appointed, runs the show. King Tony, Villaraigosa is out of office soon. This can also help to prevent him from running for governor or whatever other office he is going to try to get. He has been rejected from a federal job now let us end his political career and make him and his cronies find a “Real Job.”
