Chicago teachers: A letter from CPS Chief Talent Officer, Alicia Winkler.

CPS’ Chief Talent Officer, Alicia Winkler. Got talent?

Imagine. If teachers had not fulfilled our job responsibilities, what would our “REACH” evaluation say?

Dear CPS Teachers,

One year ago, CPS launched REACH (Recognizing Educators Advancing Chicago) Students, a fair and transparent evaluation system that was developed in large part with the input of teachers from throughout the District. REACH provides a common language to describe the complex work of teaching and the supports needed to achieve excellence in the classroom.

CPS is now finalizing all results from year one of this new evaluation system. We understand that the delay in receiving these results is a source of frustration for many, as they are important to you as professionals. They are important to the District as well, which is why we are determined to make sure that we provide you with the most accurate and complete individual reports.

We look forward to sharing first year REACH results with you shortly. Tenured teachers will receive reports with valuable information to help improve practice. Non-tenured teachers will also receive a summative rating for School Year 2012-2013.

We apologize for this delay and thank you for your continued patience as we complete this process.

Sincerely,

Alicia Winckler

Chief Talent Officer

  1. I think that when you accept a position entitled “Chief Talent Officer,” you either need to be extremely talented or accept the fact that the job title is a jab the teaching profession, and that for all anyone on the CPS Board cares, they’re running a Disney cruise and need dancers. Chief Talent Officer. Good lord. They’ve made evaluation into a Kabbalah-like mysticism, and they can’t even figure out how to get the results to the staff. Really, all of these people should be fired. Nobody doing the actual work of teaching would even notice.
